About Us

David

Let’s go way back to the roaring 20′s.  My grandfather, Walter David Perry III, was adopted and I believe his birth parents were Russian immigrants.  I’m Walt’s namesake and he gave me a lot to live up to.  Things are coming full circle now that we are adopting a child, too. It feels right.

As a filmmaker doing humanitarian work, I also became immersed in the international orphan crisis and adoption world. I love helping others and have traveled to Africa and Mexico to do documentary films on orphans.  I have produced films about international adoption that have been presented at the United Nations in NYC for several years as well as assisting other non profit organizations around the world.  I’ve discovered and experienced firsthand the joy that comes from serving.  Our young family also travelled to Guatemala together and we look forward to our adventures in another land!

I’m thankful for the preparations I’ve been given that led me to adopt.  It started with a Social Work practicum in a Siberian orphanage in Russia several years ago.  As a young woman, it opened my eyes to the children’s lives and their unmet needs.  Adoption continued to touch my life as a social worker in various capacities (e.g. Child Protection, family counselor in an office that did adoptions, etc.).  I also received my Masters Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in International Community Organization.  I dreamed of making a difference overseas.

From time to time after marrying David I would ponder and pray deeply about adopting, but it was never the right time. Earlier this year, I suddenly felt the time was NOW and we took a leap of faith and started taking the steps towards adoption.  I should add that I was thrilled when David started doing international films about orphans; he was living my dream!  Ha!  It has transpired into making my dream come true, too, by adopting a girl internationally.  BTW – I’m international.  Yes, being Canadian counts. :)

David + Danielle

We are united in our decision to adopt.  We very much want to parent a daughter and look forward to giving her a family. The decision to adopt a child with HIV was not on our minds and hearts at first.  Once we were introduced to it though, we were powerfully effected by the experiences of many other families who had made this choice.  It has been a growing experience for us; this journey has become less about us and more about a child that could easily be overlooked for adoption by her status.  That being said, HIV adoption is a lot easier than it may appear; we are happy to share on our site what we have learned along the way.  :)

Our Family

We have 2 boys, Drew + Hudson, and we love them with all of our hearts!  We know how to hike mountains, boogie, make cool family videos, chug green smoothies…and eat way too much popcorn and and ice cream!  We are also known to pray and pray and pray for a little girl.  Adoption is not for the faint of heart, so we hear.  We can’t entirely predict how this change will effect our family.  However, our motto is “We’ll Handle It!” and we will.  Thank you for supporting us along the way; you’re awesome!

Drew was on David’s weekly segment “Creating Connections” explaining how we put family first:
